Unified Pitt Resources

A project by Eshan Parmar, Alyssa Barton, Gabe Stay, Joe Flot, and Maya Roman

The Problem

The resources available to Pitt students are scattered across many disjointed webpages and portals.

Our Solution

We developed a central hub that organizes all the software and technical resources available to students into an easy to use website.

Definition

The centralized portal combines all resources offered by the university into one easy-to-navigate site. When the user opens the webpage, the landing screen prompts the user to input a term in the search bar to provide the best options related to their search or offers the opportunity to browse all the resources by category or alphabetically.

As a team, the most popular ideas resulted in the final product of the source page. Eshan and Maya took the lead on the coding of the site in Adobe XD. Joe put his graphic design skills to good use to complete icons and other factors relating to an overall pleasing appearance. Gabe and Alyssa primarily worked on documentation related to the resource page. To share documents, keep track of goals, and allow for further development, we used a GitHub Repository.

Quality

Making what the university offers easier to access holds importance for several reasons.

- Students have greater knowledge of the tools available to them which opens the door creatively for big ideas.

- Users have more efficient access to resources minimizing time wasted searching.

- Students benefit from a greater value for the tuition they pay.

future

Moving Forward

Resources are always changing and the centralized page will have to keep up to make sure it provides all relevant information to students.

Instructions are written to help with updating the site.

Ideas to improve the site are always welcome. The goal is to make it as simple as possible for students to find everything they need and more.
